Profile
My name is Jorge Quinteros and this is my online space where I share my photography along with brief stories in what went into capturing them.
I’m 29 years old. I live in Brooklyn with my beautiful wife. I obtained a Bachelors in Graphic Design, worked with a small design firm in Long Island for 4 years while being employed with a major retail company and now pursue the former.
What else can you tell me about yourself?
Through practice, I’ve reach the point where I’ve gain confidence in presenting myself as a photographer. I continue to learn new techniques everyday and getting comfortable with the intricacies of operating the camera all of which I owe to my inquisitiveness and the wonderful photographers that inspire me.
I lived in El Salvador for 5 years and with the exception of brief anecdotes that highlighted significant events, I regret not having owned a camera to document experiences that became uncommon in comparison to what I was use to in New York. Everyone’s perception of the world is unique and so it was that insight of having lived abroad and natural curiosity of the world which ignited my interest in photography.
As someone who’s deeply obsessed with travel, I look for inspiration in the works of Travel Photographers such as Mitchell Kanashkevich, Tom Bourdon, Trey Ratcliff and David duChemin.
For me, it’s the perfect blend of traveling and photographing that I love and if I had the career that allowed me to do so, getting paid for it would absolutely feel like a bonus. At the same time, I don’t find the excuse of having not boarded a plane for not being able to deliver compelling photographs to describe how I felt about being in a place. It’s less about the gear and place and more about how you’ve chosen to see things.
Where I’ve Been
What really got me more into photography was my love for travel and a need to share my experiences, as well as to express myself. I think it’s a natural thing for anyone that visits new places but the difference will be in how you choose to share those experiences through your photographs. Here’s a list of places I’ve had the opportunity to visit and I still have many more I would like to add to the list:
- Los Angeles
- Miami
- Las Vegas

What computer do you use?
Looking back at my long Apple computer ownership, I’ve always been more keen in selecting laptops as my primary machine. I currently work with a 13” MacBook Pro which I upgraded to in 2011.
What camera do you use?
Unquestionably that’s the most common question every photographer gets. Photography tends to be a very gear-oriented craft that’s often given too much attention but the one advice any true photographer can give you is that it’s not about the camera so much. It’s about how you see things and decided to capture them that will impact your photos more. This is what I work with:
- Nikon D90
Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G VR(Sold it)- Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8
- Nikkor 85mm f/1.8
- Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D
- MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack
- Solmetta Geotagger N2
How do you process your photographs?
I’ve used photo management software like Apple’s iPhoto and Aperture in the past but like your camera, my suggestion is to choose something that’s comfortable for you and not just because everyone else is using a specific software.
All my photos are cataloged, edited and upload to Flickr through Adobe Lightroom. As for the colors on my photos you ask? Well, I’ve worked so long with Lightroom that I developed custom presets that I apply to images along with some color tweaking during the process.
