Photographic Questions in Quora
I owe the driving force of signing up to any online service to the people I follow on Twitter. At the moment, everyone seems to be talking about Quora and it’s popularity for me has been evaluated in noticing how often I visit the site everyday.
The concept is very simple. Users can log on via their Facebook or Twitter account, you post a question and other users can answer them assuming they...

Welcoming the AppleTV
Perhaps because I failed to pay much attention to the 1st generation AppleTV and the acclaim surrounding it that I assumed the device was not a huge success. The functionalities of it at the time were limited so the idea of owning one was more of a supplement to whatever hardware occupied the living room as oppose to a replacement for anything.
I’ve was fairly critical of the device before...

How To Create An Easy Street Photo Session →
Clay Enos takes it to the street with a dSLR, a 50mm lens and some white paper to use as a backdrop to do what we all feel intimidated in doing which is to ask random people to pose for us. Some very valuable insight on how to make your subjects more comfortable which is a characteristic I’m working on. The money quote for me was “I’m not really interested in the Golden Gate…more in the people.”

– C.J Chilvers on What is a Lesser Photographer? There’s not much else I can add to this powerful statement other than to re-read it and realize how true it is.

5 Reasons You're Not Taking Pictures →
I’m not sure what you call a photographer who doesn’t take any photos but if you happen find yourself among that group, Jessica Oei shares 5 candid reasons on why you may not be photographing as much as you would love to. I personally may not use my D90 everyday but my iPhone is just as capable of capturing moments. Overall some great insight and the 5 reasons boil down to this:
We don’t bring...

Read & Trust Network →
I’ve come to really enjoy reading blogs so much that I’ve limit the amount I subscribe to with the intention to benefit from the select few that I feel correlate with my interest.
I read the blogs from those writers who eloquently share detailed information on one subject but who can then easily toggle onto something else. These are the people that I make it my business to learn from because...

The Right to Photograph
Most people assume they can’t photograph. They think it’s just something other people do and a lot of the fear comes from placing too much emphasis on what they consider “real photographers” do as oppose to focusing on what photography really is. In its simplest form, photography is just the act of observing and being daring enough to capture what others may deem as inconsequential.
I do believe...

Introducing Pocketgrams →
Using Instagram has very much resembled being part of an underground society where if you don’t have an iPhone and the app installed, it’s difficult to admire the photographs of others unless you’re patient enough to view them all one at a time via the link they share.
I shared a couple Instagram photographs with my cousin that lives in El Salvador who doesn’t own an...

– Everett Bogue talking about that lack of confidence some of us have when it comes to presenting ourselves as someone more than just holding a camera. Unfortunately he deleted the article but I had saved it a year ago on my Kindle which is where I pull this quote from but I haven’t found a way...

Backing Up Your Flickr Photographs
Flickr by far has become the exclusive destination for any photograph I intend to share. I’ve been a Pro member since 2005 and while I’ve haven’t seen the service as a complete online storage for my work, I’ve also never put thought in the possibility of what my reaction would be if I lost it all.
I like to think Flickr is not going away anytime soon but that doesn’t mean you can’t plan for any...

Enter Photography Contest
I don’t enter photography contest as much as I’m suggested to but I’m seeing to change that because it’s truly a great assessment in seeing how your photographs stack up against others as well as way of gaining the exposure that comes with winning one. Some are free while others require a fee but I confess it’s the latter that I veer to the most.
What’s wrong with free ones? Absolutely...

Storyboard for Photoshop →
In photography terms, a Diptych is essentially the placing of 2 photographs next to each other to present a form of storytelling with the images. There’s no rule that the photographs have to be related but it certainly helps when they are so as to maintain some connectivity between them.
I often create diptychs by using a Photoshop template that I made. The process of manually resizing each...

Why Photoblogs are Boring →
Nitsa’s opinion on photoblogs:
Unlike photography blogs, photoblogs typically don’t share information, advice or ideas, but instead display their beautiful photos which is really nice of them, but after seeing a few of these photos it just becomes a little boring.
Running a photoblog for me has become an added motivation to continue photographing. One aspect I intended to veer away from...

The Importance of Questions →
I’m not at a point in my life where I envision myself leaving the company I work for and venture out to make it as a full-time photographer but in the mean time I continue to pursue the craft with serious enthusiasm and respect . At the moment, whether you’re a casual photographer or a semi-pro, before you can even consider taking the next leap, at some point you have to put down the camera...

– Often I’m taken back by the ease in which some photographers share everything they’ve taken in a days shoot. I’m a strong advocate in the need to edit your work especially if that means only uploading a small selection of the stuff you’re proud of as oppose to sub-par images...

Tribeca DSLR Sling-Bag Review
As I occasionally do on my days off, I took the train into Manhattan last week to photograph and in between the chaos that oftentimes characterizes commuting via subway into an overcrowded city, I realized how much sense it would make to own more than one camera bag.
The perfect camera bag for particular situations is just as important as the gear you have interest in taking with you....

Giving Away Your Art
Giving away anything for free has to be one of the most marketable techniques available. It allows people who wouldn’t necessarily want to spend the money on something without first personally experiencing it to try it.
You can suddenly become a more likeble person because you’re not afraid to give away your work but you’ll probably think to yourself “I can’t afford...
